To The Rescue!

Last time you heard from me I was manfully resisting the urge to break something after I lost several hours work on my computer. I'm sure you're biting your nails in suspense, wondering what has happened since.

Well, on Saturday LovelyDaughter and I were gone all day -- we went to a one day women's retreat-- and when we got back, GuitarGeek was just finishing up putting all 100 songs in my computer!

I still can hardly believe he did that for me. Of course, he had been itching to figure out a shortcut for me, and with me gone all day, that's exactly what he did, so it didn't take him nearly as long as it would have taken me.

There's a reason why his middle name is "Geek."

And now, today, we get to sit down -- finally (procrastination is an art that we have perfected)-- and do our TAXES. Pray for me!

I send you peace that passes understanding for the taxes. I have another friend that's doing self-employment taxes as well to whom I'm sending more of the same.

I discovered the phenomenon of being a useful geek back in elementary school, since I always had plenty of friends right before a test. Praise God that in the community that's your family, you recognize and appreciate the wisdom and other things that look like Christ as well as the knowledge that's there. Everyone is good at something; hopefully, we all have a place where we're chiefly valued for being ourselves.

Everyone needs to know at least one geek. I'm lucky enough to have 3 in my life and they are always coming to my rescue.

Guitar Geek is awesome for helping you out without even being asked.

Yeah, I heard sounds of great distress and lamentations. That's always my cue to squeeze into the nearest phone booth, broom closet or kitchen cabinet and don my supergeek outfit. Which consists of comfy jeans and a nice T-shirt. Which is what I wear all the time, so I've never had to actually try squeezing into the aforementioned places.

Anyway, I cooked up a Perl shell script that would walk through the huge PowerPoint97(tm) file and extract the mangled goodness into a plaintext file that I could then use to quickly copy into Liveworship. Actually, I had to export it into xhtml first, which resulted in horrible code soup that frightened women and children and caused global warming, but at least it was better than trying to parse a file full of binary junk.

What's remarkable is how much Super Geek looks like Guitar Geek. It's like Superman going into the phone booth and coming out still in the suit and tie, but flying away anyway (WHAP, WHAP, WHAP).:) Either that, or you exist perpetually in the SUPER state. God knows how intervention is constantly needed!

I love it that your son came to your rescue. Mine does that from time to time, too, although it is usually more in the form of manual labor! Glad you were spared the agony of reentering all those songs again. God is good!
